  1. United Nations’ International Day of Remembrance and Tribute to the Victims of Terrorism is annually observed across the globe on 21 August to honour and support the victims and survivors of terrorism and to promote and protect the full enjoyment of their human rights and fundamental freedoms.
  2. World Senior Citizen’s Day is annually celebrated across the globe on 21 August to honour the efforts, contributions, and achievements made by the older adults to society, families and communities.
  3. Power Finance Corporation (PFC) has appointed Parminder Chopra as Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of the company with effect from 14 August 2023, and she becomes the first woman to lead India’s largest non-banking financial company (NBFC).
  4. Spain secured their first ever Women’s World Cup title with a 1-0 win over England at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup final in Sydney.

  16. Australian Olympic swimming Gold medallist John Thomas Devitt passed away on 17 August 2023, in Sydney, Australia at the age of 86.
